Profundo Journeys Destination: Vietnam & Cambodia

April 22 - May 9, 2017

18 days, 17 nights

An immersive way to see Vietnam, it’s cities and small towns, its ancient ruins, port cities, architecture, and people, is to take a photo tour. The beauty of a photo tour, like the Profundo Journeys Vietnam & Cambodia Photography Tour and Workshop, is that everything is arranged for you. The accommodations in four-star hotels (on ground and floating), in-country transportation (private van, boat & air), specialized itinerary of events, are completely planned. You can enjoy your travels without worry, and focus on getting the photos you want.

Vietnam is an exotic and diverse nation, with many opportunities for making excellent photographs. In this Profundo Journeys photography tour, every day is a new adventure!

Many visitors are amazed with the cuisine, natural beauty and unforgetable charm of this lush and tranquil land.

In the capital city of Hanoi, the first impression is of the urban chaos and energy of the life in the streets; motor scooters, vendors, the smells of cooking and cacophony of sound. Behind all this activity is the French Colonial architecture, the ancient tunnel house and maze of streets, and the vibrancy of color and culture. In the vicinity of the city are small villages with pagodas and simpler lifestyles.

A much different scene awaits you at Halong Bay in the Gulf of Tonkin. This is a UNESCO world heritage site, and  home to towering island karsts of limestone that rise high above the waters of the bay. The Bay has many 'junks' that serve as floating hotels, and other fishing, cargo and sailing vessels. From the deck of the ship, many photographs can be made, but there are also opportunities for excursions on smaller boats, side trips that lead into floating fishing villages and limestone caves.

The city of Hue is famous for its Imperial Citadel, pagodas and bridges on the Perfume River. There will also be opportunities to travel outside of the city to smaller villages, boat cruises to remote lagoons and beautiful scenery.

Hoi An is a former ancient trading port now with well preserved architecture and a vibrant early morning fish market, that qualify it for UNESCO status. The architecture is a mix of French Indochinese, Chinese and indigenous Vietnamese, as is the history of the town. At night, the old town is lit up with lights, and there are floating lanterns on the river. From Hoi An, there will be a side trip to My Son, the holy land of the Champa,  a kingdom dating to the 4th -13th centuries. These brick temples are like sculptures in the jungle, some preserved, and some in ruins.

Ho Chi Min City, formerly Saigon, has many landmarks of interest of French architecture, and also a 'Chinatown', with authentic Vietnamese pagodas and temples.

The Mekong Delta is home to many small villages, best explored by boat. The river flows through lush vegetation, small villages, rice paddies and floating markets. All have immense potential for photography.

Siem Reap, Cambodia is an excellent base  to explore Angkor Wat, Ta Prohm, Angkor Thom, Banteay Srei, Banteay Samre and the floating village of Chong Knies on the largest fresh water lake in Southeast Asia, Tonle Sap.
